Quinta da Donalda is on the western Algarve, Penina, close to Portimao and surrounded by lush countryside, fig trees and 'bread making land'. The property has been in the same family for over 360 years and is the perfect blend of a traditional Quinta with modern day living. Ideal for large groups or families, it sleeps 14 people and is particuarly suitable for those who want to holiday together yet enjoy their own space as the accommdation is made up of three individual cottages.
The Quinta sits within 92 hectares of land and the estate continues to produce farm products which can be bought in the Portimao Minicipal Market. In 1944 a small chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição was built. In 2014, a large fire destroyed the main Quinta building, which is still being renovated. Past guests have included the Portuguese Royal Family (Braganza), the Crown Prince of Liechtenstein and the Counts of Paris (D’Orleans) as well as several Portuguese presidents and politicians.
The Liberal Wing (alluding to Reformists family members during Portugal’s royal past and civil wars) is attached to the main Quinta building and includes five en-suite bedrooms all on one floor (one is considered suitable for those with limited mobility). The bedrooms open out on to an orange tree courtyard which is perfect for alfresco meals.
The Bartolomeu & Daniel cottages (charmingly named after previous workers who once worked at Quinta da Donalda) have been converted from old farm buildings. They mirror each other and feature a mezzanine level bedroom over an open plan ground floor. All cottages have their own fully equipped kitchen and are fitted with fireplaces and air conditioning for year-round rentals.
This is a tranquil and relaxed retreat away from the busy coastal resorts. Guests can enjoy peaceful walks around the estate, surrounded by nature, or curl up with a good book in any of the chill-out areas at the villa.
Resident staff live in independent accommodation with the grounds and can provide daily breakfast, included in the villa rental, picnic baskets, personal laundry and meals upon request at an additional charge. Nearby, there is horse-riding and golf courses and Alvor beach is just a 10 minute drive away.
Please note: This is a working country estate where machinery and farming products abound, and young children must be supervised.

Note - the villa sleeps 14 comfortably. It is possible to accommodate 4 children on sofa beds by request at no additional charge. Please ask us about this upon enquiry.
Limited Mobility - This property has a bedroom and shower room on the ground floor with little or no steps in the living areas or to the swimming pool/garden, so may be considered suitable for someone with limited mobility. Ramps can also be provided. As everyone's needs are different, please check with us at time of booking to ensure suitability for your group.
