Praia das Maçãs (Apple) beach is just 2km away which has a wide beach protected on each side by rocky cliffs. Legend has it that, up in the hills, lining the edge of the stream, were apple orchards. The apples would ripen and fall to be carried downstream to the shoreline and roll across the sand creating a beach of apples! Also, just a short drive away, is the enchanting Sintra where you can see Pena Palace perched on top of the hill which looks like it could be straight from a Disney film.
