Best time to visit Porto
Porto enjoys a mild Atlantic climate, making it a year-round destination. Summer (June to August) brings warm weather, lively festivals, and a buzzing atmosphere along the Douro River. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal for fewer crowds, pleasant temperatures, and enjoying the city’s wine cellars, river cruises, and historic streets. Winter (December to February) is cooler and quieter, but still full of charm, with festive lights, hearty local dishes and off-season rates.
Not necessarily. Porto is compact, walkable, and well served by public transport, including trams, buses, and the Metro. However, if you plan to explore the Douro Valley or nearby beaches, hiring a car is a great option.

By plane
The nearest airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO), located around 12km from the city centre. Direct flights operate from many UK airports year-round. From the airport, you can take a taxi, use a ride-hailing app, or hop on the Metro’s Violet Line, which will take you directly into central Porto in around 30 minutes. We can also arrange private transfers from the airport to your villa or apartment for a smooth and stress-free start to your holiday.
By train
Porto is well connected to Lisbon and other Portuguese cities via the high-speed Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains. Campanhã Station is the main rail hub, and local taxis or the Metro can take you from here to your chosen accommodation.
By car
From Lisbon, take the A1 motorway north (around 3 hours). From Spain, the A3 motorway connects Porto to Galicia, while the A4 runs from the east. Roads are well maintained and signposted, making driving straightforward.
